Jackie
Ponwaye. Lincoln, Great Britain, June 5, 2003. Space is only
space because it is not filled with matter. Where would we be without
it?
001:Empty Space. A space on a park bench in the upper area of the
City of Lincoln, England in close proximity to where my husband works
as an architect and also to where I once worked as a PA/Secretary
14 years ago. This image depicts a space in time patiently waiting
to be filled by some passer-by wishing to eat their sandwiches on
a sunny lunch-time in July 2003.
002: Spaced Out. A parking space at Morrisons, one of our many local
supermarkets in Lincoln. It is not often you can find a space when
you want one. This particular supermarket is fantastic for purchasing
fresh salmon and Queen Olives.
003: Making a Space. A space in my Mums diary - a very rare
occurrence. Although retired, you actually have to book a space in
her diary about three months ahead to arrange to meet up with her.
A few years ago she had a voluntary job half a day a week and had
to give it up due to her social calendar!

004: A Number of Spaces.
On first arriving in Portugal on Friday 25 July 2003 - the visit was
a short weekend trip to attend a friend‰s wedding - I spied a lovely
bench at Faro Airport. The bench is made of granite and has wonderful
square shaped spaces you can see through to the surface below.
005: Beautiful Space. A space within a sculpture in Lagos town centre
Portugal.
006: Spaces. I think this is a great image to finish with. Its a rather
old sign located on the top of the Lincoln Co-op store, where I often
park my car. As you can see, the barrier to which it refers is no
longer there. I was disappointed I was unable to get a photograph
of its former lives. The barrier started off as a normal size and
got shorter and shorter until eventually it was only a foot long and
had the white letters S T O P on a red background which hung from
it. It gradually became a shadow of its former self until, as can
be seen here, it has given up the ghost and no longer
exists.
